BACKFLASHES – Graffiti Tales was originally published by Publikat in 2009. For more than six years, photographer ruedione (Ruediger Glatz) accompanied graffiti writers around the world on their nightly excursions. His focus was never the finished piece or the individual writer, but the experience itself: heightened awareness, the smell of paint, darkness, and the distant pulse of the city. Shot exclusively in black and white, the photographs condense these experiences into powerful visual afterimages; writers such as SMASH137, REVOK, COPE2, JEPSY, Peter Michalski, ATOM and DARE contribute personal reflections on bombing culture and nocturnal journeys.

This BALD BOOKS edition is a remaster of that 2009 original — tightened in edit, smaller in format, redesigned from the ground up. Less book, more night.
